Easter – What’s the Big Deal?

Easter – What’s the Big Deal?

Why do Christians make such a big deal about Easter?

Well, it’s not because of traveling home to see the family, going to sunrise service at church, or even Sunday dinner with the family. And it’s certainly not because of the candy, searching for colorful eggs, or even the story of a bunny that brings gift baskets to children! And though there is not necessarily any harm in these family, church and secular traditions; the danger is that they can, and often do, overshadowed the true meaning and miracle of Easter Sunday.

Then why do Christians make such a big deal about Easter?

Because this is the day we celebrate
the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead!

The truth and necessity of Christ’s resurrection is prophesied, witnessed and explained throughout the Holy Bible. Yet, in the 15th Chapter of the New Testament Book First Corinthians, God used the Apostle Paul to clearly and concisely explain the paramount importance of Christ’s resurrection from the dead.

Let’s examine just a few of the incredibly powerful verses found in
1 Corinthians 15:
  • 3-4 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,
    • Paul’s Corroboration – The reality of Christ’s bodily resurrection after He died on a Roman cross to pay the debt for our sins.
  • 17-18 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
    • Paul’s Challenge – The uselessness of faith in a dead Savior: for those who are alive and for those who have already died.
  • 21-22 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.
    • Paul’s Confidence – Because of Christ’s resurrection, those who have placed their faith in Him have the expectation of eternal life with Him.
  • 42-44 So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. 43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. 44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
    • Paul’s Clarification – About the glorious bodies Christians will have for all eternity.
  • 53-54 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
    • Paul’s Conclusion – The resurrection of Christ is the evidence of His victory over Death!
  • 55-56 “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
    • Paul’s Celebration – Through faith in Jesus Christ, Christians have eternal victory over Death!!!

Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
  • Surrender your life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Believe what God has told us about Him:
    • Jesus is God.
    • Jesus came to earth as a man through a virgin birth.
    • Jesus lived a sinless life.
    • Jesus died to pay our sin debt to God.
    • Jesus rose from the dead, defeated death and is our assurance of eternal life!!!

Easter is about
Jesus’ Victory over Death!!!

Now that’s a big deal!

Romans 6:4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
  • God has given us the power of the Holy Spirit to live in victory over sin and death every single day!

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Prayer

Our Holy Father in Heaven, may Your Glorious name be praised forever! Thank You for Your plan of salvation through faith in Christ. Thank You for loving us enough to come to earth and die for us. Thank You for the resurrection proof of who Christ is and what He did for us. In Christ’s Holy and Precious name I pray, Amen.
